iOS 16.4, what's new?
Apple just released the first beta of iOS 16.4, so what's the new features?
Apple just released the first beta of iOS 16.4, which comes with many new features. One of the most noticeable changes is the addition of new emojis, including a jellyfish, a shaking face, hearts, maracas, ginger, and a hyacinth, among others. In addition, the new iOS version allows web apps to send web push notifications in the home screen of an iPhone or iPad, making web apps more like regular apps.
The latest home kit architecture is also reintroduced, after being removed in iOS 16.2, and is expected to improve the reliability, connectivity, and efficiency between smart home devices. The Podcast app also gets some updates, such as a channels menu that lets creators list all their podcasts in one place, an up next option, and access to new podcasts in a browse section.
The next-gen car play, which supports multiple displays, is set to be rolled out by 14 automakers sometime in late 2023. iOS 16.4 also comes with a more prominent button to access your profile in the Apple Music app, an updated coverage section to view warranty information for your iPhone and connected devices, and an emergency SOS via satellite feature that tells the user when the next satellite will be passing by.
Users who have different Focus modes and like to customize them can now add an always-on display filter that can be enabled or turned off for their focus mode. Furthermore, iOS 16.4 has set up the option for a savings account for Apple card users, allowing them to transfer their Apple card balance to their savings account to start earning interest on it, among other things.
iOS 16.4, iPad OS 16.4, and Mac OS Ventura 13.3 are expected to release sometime in the spring, and public beta testers will be able to install a developer profile from Apple to run the betas on their phones. As always, users should install the new iOS at their own risk.
